The Arizona Association of REALTORS® introduced the International Real Estate Council in October 2002.  These procedures were reviewed and updated in March 2006.

MISSION AND OBJECTIVES

Mission
The mission of the International Real Estate Council of the Arizona Association of REALTORS® is to further enhance the professionalism of REALTORS® serving foreign nationals and U.S. citizens involved in international transactions by providing education and information resources.

Objectives
The following objectives were established as part of a multi-year plan.

Education and Training

  • Promote the CIPS designation
  • Offer/promote sessions/training on cultural customs
  • Advertise or offer:
    • Educational opportunities/panel discussions/forums networking opportunities and calendars of events
  • Use AARonline.com for international real estate information/resource center (in English as well as in other languages

Membership and Recruitment

  • Establish a mailing list of international members (those who deal with international clients)
  • Develop external funding sources
  • Identify available resources to enact new programs, products, services and activities (ppsas).

Research

  • Research current involvement by members in international groups.
  • Research sister cities information
  • Research information and partner with Arizona Department of Commerce and other agencies and organizations, and other sources about:
    • foreign investment opportunities;
    • who’s buying Arizona real estate;
    • who’s immigrating to Arizona
    • percentages of people by ethnic group/age to identify specific markets
  • Conduct focus groups
  • Research availability and value in NAR’s ambassador program and presidential liaison program

Outreach, Networking, and Business Development

  • Business development/trade missions
  • Represent AAR to Arizona government and business organizations with like goals and establish relationships with same
  • Possible groups mentioned to establish relationships with are:
    • Phoenix Foreign Relations Committee
    • Sister Cities
    • Women in International Trade
    • Thunderbird School of International Management
    • International Business Information Exchange
  • Build on available tools to strengthen an international referral network – especially with the State of Sonora, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
  • Work with the Arizona Mexico Commission regarding real estate activities in the State of Sonora.
  • Determine what Arizona local associations, other state associations and FIABCI are doing with regard to international activities and how AAR’s efforts can mesh.
  • Develop a liaison system with foreign consulates located in Arizona.

Many of the objectives from the above list are included in the annual International Council’s Business Plan as part of the Industry Issues Key Result Area’s Business Plans.



MEMBERSHIP POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Membership

Membership shall be made up of the following categories:

  • REALTOR® Members. REALTOR® members of IREC include any REALTOR® member of the Arizona Association of REALTORS® or a related cooperating association.
  • Affiliate Members. Affiliate members are any other individuals interested in IREC who are not REALTORS®.
  • Local Association Member. Local Association members are for a representative of a local association (staff or officer) who wish to support IREC through membership.
  • Corporate Member. Corporate Members are for principals of EITHER REALTOR® for Affiliate firms.
  • Corporate Member Associates. Corporate Member Associates are individual REALTORS® or Affiliates who are associated with a Corporate Member and receive 50% discounts from their member category dues.

Founding members are those who joined the Council between the AAR Leadership Conference in October 2002 and the end of AAR Winter Conference on March 14, 2003. Founding members will be recognized on all membership lists.

All members will receive member discounts at Council events and all other member benefits to be established. If an event is free to members, only one Corporate Member representative will be allowed to attend at no charge.

Dues
Annual dues shall be payable on January 1 of each year and shall not be prorated.

Corporate Associate REALTORS® $25.00
Corporate Associate Affiliates $50.00


Leadership
There is an International Advisory Board, which meets regularly to plan and coordinate Council programming and activities.

The International Advisory Board chairman is appointed jointly by the AAR President and the Industry Issues Key Result Area (IIKRA) Chair.

Members of the Advisory Board will be appointed from Council members jointly by the IIKRA Chair and the Council Advisory Board Chair. There should be from 6-11 members on the Board.

The International Advisory Board can appoint sub-groups, such as, membership, EXPO, programs, research, as necessary.
